Chelsea ‘to cut losses with Timo Werner’ as Romelu Lukaku price tag emerges

Chelsea are ‘open’ to selling Timo Werner this summer as the Stamford Bridge club have reignited their interest in Romelu Lukaku.

Thomas Tuchel is looking for an out-and-out goalscorer for the upcoming season as they look to challenge for the Premier League title following their Champions League win in May.

The Blues have lined up three big hitters as targets including Erling Haaland, Robert Lewandowski and Lukaku.

The Belgian striker poured cold water over a potential reunion with the Blues before Euro 2020 as he expressed his desire to stay at Inter Milan following the Italian side’s title win last term.

Borussia Dortmund are holding out for £150m for Haaland who is available at a more affordable price next summer as his release clause can be triggered, while Lewandowski won’t come on the cheap either.

But with Inter’s well-documented financial troubles and needing to offload players during the window, Chelsea haven’t given up hope on signing Lukaku, who spent three years at Chelsea between 2011 and 2014.

However, the Londoners will have to make an offer of at least £100m if they are to resign the former Manchester United forward as Inter claimed it will take a nine-digit fee for them to consider selling their prized asset despite their significant levels of debt, according to Tuttosport.

If Chelsea can orchestrate a deal for either of the star trio, it could mean the end for Werner at Stamford Bridge after a difficult debut season.

And Tuchel’s men are not against cutting their losses after just one year due to the German’s struggles in front of goal.

Werner is attracting interest as well from the likes of Bayern Munich who have ‘concrete interest’ in making a move for the former RB Leipzig man.

It has also been reported that the Bundesliga giants are looking for an eventual replacement for Lewandowski and Werner would be an ideal candidate given his successful partnership with new boss Julian Nagelsmann from their time in Leipzig.
