Chelsea returned to action after the international break with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Newcastle on Saturday.
It’s been a strong start to the season by Frank Lampard’s side, who temporarily moved to the top of the Premier League table with the three points they picked up on Tyneside.
The fixtures come thick and fast in the coming weeks, but Blues director Marina Granovskaia may have started looking ahead to the January transfer window and further new recruits to help fortify a potential Premier League title challenge.
But there are also plenty of rumours Lampard’s squad could be made smaller in the mid-season with senior players said to be plotting moves away in search of more playing opportunities.
With all that in mind, here are all the latest Chelsea transfer rumours.
Mikel Arteta wanted Jorginho to sign for Arsenal
The Chelsea midfielder was on Mikel Arteta’s wishlist at The Emirates alongside Lyon playmaker Houssem Aouar and Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey, who arrived on deadline day.
Italy international Jorginho remained at Stamford Bridge and has featured prominently under Frank Lampard so far this season, making five starts in the Premier League and three in the Champions League.
Arteta and his technical staff are said to be big admirers of Jorginho, who they wanted to bolster the Gunners midfield as well as Partey. Arsenal explored the option of a structured payments deal but couldn’t come to a deal with Chelsea.
Conte plots Giroud reunion
Inter Milan have emerged as potential suitors for Olivier Giroud, following reports the striker is willing to force a move away from Stamford Bridge in January.
The 34-year-old striker has been told by France coach Didier Deschamps that he needs to play more regularly if he’s to make Les Bleus’ squad for the Euros next summer.
Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport suggests that he could be headed to the San Siro, with Inter boss Antonio Conte keen on a reunion with the veteran. He remains in their considerations after being strongly linked to move there throughout last season.
Giroud’s only Chelsea start this season has come in the League Cup. Lampard brought him off the bench for the final minutes of their 2-0 victory away to Newcastle.
Chelsea will listen to offers for Rudiger
Having featured for Brazil’s World Cup qualifiers in South America, Lampard opted to rest key defender Thiago Silva as Chelsea returned to action against Newcastle.
Rudiger, who had been tipped to leave for London rivals Tottenham in the summer, was given the nod to partner Kurt Zouma ahead of Andreas Christensen and Fikayo Tomori.
But it was the Germany international’s first Premier League appearance of the season, and according to Eurosport are willing to listen to offers during the January transfer window.
The 27-year-old didn’t feature in Germany’s recent 6-0 defeat to Spain, but he could potentially look to move in order to stake his claim for Die Mannschaft’s squad next summer.
