It would be easy to think Chelsea’s summer transfer activity would lead them to having a very quiet January.
There has also been some slight disappointment in a couple of the signings that arrived a few months ago. Timo Werner hasn’t fired on all cylinders as predicted and Kai Havertz hasn’t settled despite his talent.
Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Edouard Mendy, however, have enjoyed brighter starts to the season.
And so this leaves January, with Declan Rice the main name dominating headlines.
Here’s the Chelsea transfer latest.
Rice agent change
The West Ham midfielder has been linked with Chelsea for some time but a change of agents is likely to add fuel to the fire.
Why? Because his new agent is his dad and he’s a Chelsea season ticker holder.
According to The Athletic, Rice has changed management to dad Sean who would surely love to see his son play in west London.
Rice’s ‘dream’ shirt number
So far Rice has worn shirt numbers five and eight for England and 41 for West Ham.
According to Football.London, Rice would have a good chance of keeping his beloved 41 shirt due to it being a relatively rare number worn by Chelsea first team players.
No.5 is worn by Jorginho and the No.8 is worn by Ross Barkley. The latter, though, is on loan at Aston Villa with his long-term future up in the air.
Lampard on January plans
What about the Chelsea boss himself? Lampard has remained coy on his transfer plans and said as much ahead of the West Ham fixture.
“Firstly, I don’t know about January,” he said.
“I’ll consider January when it is here. So I’ve got the squad and we’re working hard on the games that are in front of us.”
