Chelsea spent big in the summer transfer market by bringing in £250million worth of talent, but Frank Lampard isn’t done yet.
The Blues are set to focus on outgoings during the January window, with Lampard eager to trim the squad.
Numerous players are unlikely to feature again this season – including Fikayo Tomori and Billy Gilmour, and as a result they could move on loan in the new year.
But there are also a few targets Lampard has his eye on, with David Alaba believed to be one of them, as well as Declan Rice.
Here are the latest Chelsea transfer headlines…
Billy Gilmour move a ‘no-brainer’
Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour could be loaned out in January in order to get some regular football, and the youngster has been told a move to Rangers would be best for him.
Gilmour shone when called upon last season, but as a result of injuries has found himself out of contention in the current campaign.
Speculation suggests a move to Rangers on loan is possible, and former Premier League striker Kevin Phillips believes learning from Steven Gerrard would be the best thing possible for his development.
He told Football Insider: “Who better to learn from than three of our best ever midfield players in the Premier League.
“He has been learning off Frank Lampard and then he could be playing under Steven Gerrard and Gary McAllister. For his development it is a no-brainer.
“If I am Frank Lampard and I’m looking to loan the boy out, Rangers would be a great move for him. 100 per cent he would consider that.
Real Madrid lead David Alaba race
Chelsea could miss out on signing David Alaba at the end of his contract, according to reports.
The Austrian centre-back was apparently seen as a target by Chelsea officials, but it now seems Real Madrid are set to beat them to the punch.
Alaba will be out of contract at the end of the season, and is unwilling to sign a new deal with the European champions.
Instead, he is keeping his options open, despite numerous teams being interested in making a pre-contract bid in January.
Spanish outlet MARCA, via Four Four Two, claims Madrid are leading the way for the 28-year-old, who can play either as a centre-back, left-back or central midfielder.
Blues keen to snub Newcastle approach
Chelsea are willing to let young defender Fikayo Tomori leave the club during the January transfer window, but don’t want him staying in the Premier League.
Instead, they want him to join Ligue 1 side OGC Nice on a six-month loan.
However, the deal could be disrupted by the need to obtain a work permit due to post-Brexit EU regulations.
