McGregor has slammed fans who want ‘Ole out’ of Old Trafford, but has said that he is too close with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo to be effective as manager in the long run
Conor McGregor has backed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to stay at Manchester United, but says he wants his role ‘rearranged’ at Old Trafford.
The UFC legend is a long-time fan of United from his childhood, and has even expressed interest in potentially buying the club.
And while he doesn’t believe Solskjaer should remain in charge of the team, he has slammed fans who suggested that he be sacked entirely, insisting that the ex-player is “forever United”.
In a charged set of tweets, McGregor put forward his theory for what should happen next at Old Trafford after watching his team humiliated 5-0 at home to rivals Liverpool on Sunday.
“The issue at United is it’s just bunch of young fellas talking to each other,” McGregor said to his 8.9million followers. “Peers.
“You need some one above the group chat to take the helm. Ole was on the bench when Ronaldo played. A peer. Not enough.
“Love and respect Ole to the max but his role needs rearranged. My opinion.”
And when fans replied with joking “Ole out” tweets, the Irishman replied with vicious clap-backs, blasting one as a “fool” for wanting him to be sacked.
“Never Ole out you silly fool,” McGregor told one fan. “Ole is forever United! His role simply needs to be readjusted, and again, someone above the group chat needs brought in.
“Someone to command the young squad. God bless.”
McGregor is now back in Ireland as he continues his recovery from a broken leg and plots his return to the octagon after losing his last two bouts to Dustin Poirier,
He was stopped in their January rematch before a freak leg break in their trilogy bout saw him take back-to-back losses for the first time in his MMA career.
The Irishman is currently rehabilitating in the hopes of returning to the UFC early next year, and still harbours ambitions of reclaiming the world championship.
