Philippe Coutinho may have finally found a way out of his nightmare situation at Barcelona as Arsenal and Tottenham are reportedly interested in bringing the midfielder back to England.

The 29-year-old has only played 82 minutes of La Liga football so far this season and his Barcelona career has never really taken off as initially expected after making a £142million move from Liverpool in January 2018.

Coutinho was a fans’ favourite at Liverpool and recently spoke about his love for the Merseyside club and admiration for the quality of the Premier League since leaving Anfield.

The Brazilian may not be returning to Merseyside but the Premier League may be the perfect location to reignite his career.

Philippe Coutinho is still finding life tough at Barcelona

Coutinho has regularly dropped hints that if he did return to England he would love to head back to rejoin the Reds.

“The Premier League is one of the most exciting leagues in the world and to have the chance to play there with a team like Liverpool will always be something I will feel grateful for,” the Brazilian previously told World Soccer.

According to El Nacional, Arsenal and Tottenham are reportedly interested in bringing in Coutinho as soon as the January transfer window, and Barcelona are keen to get the Brazilian off their books due to financial issues at the Catalan club.

The report have even claimed that the La Liga giants could even offer to pay half of his £200,000-a-week wage to help push through a move in January.

Although a return to Liverpool would be a dream return for Coutinho, it has been reported that the Reds have no interest in bringing their former star back to the club.

Losing Brazilian may have been a big blow at the time, but the money they received help fund significant transfers for Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk – both of whom have proved to be huge successes.

Coutinho’s agent Kia Joorabchian suggested last month that his client would find it tough to turn out for another English team, but also left the door open for move in the near future.

“It would be very difficult for Philippe to play for any of Liverpool’s rivals because he has such a great affinity towards Liverpool. His time there was fantastic,” he said.

“But like all big players at some point, you want to experience a different thing in your career because your career is very short, but it [his Anfield exit] has no reflection on the fact his heart and affinity is very much with Liverpool.”

Coutinho was part of the Barca side that were dismantled 4-0 by Liverpool on an unforgettable night in 2018-19, as the Reds reversed a three-goal deficit in the quarter-final on their way to winning the Champions League.

While he may no longer be wanted by his former club, the playmaker would still be viewed as a fine addition for Arsenal and Tottenham and they look set to to battle it out for the 29-year-old’s signature in January, with a loan deal looking most likely.
