Dalglish makes Champions League final prediction ahead of Chelsea vs Man City

Kenny Dalglish has backed Manchester City to enjoy Champions League glory on Saturday night against Chelsea.

The two Premier League sides will meet in Porto after seeing off PSG and Real Madrid respectively in their semi-finals.

City and Pep Guardiola are yet to conquer Europe despite spending big in the transfer market with the Catalan’s last success coming in 2011 with Barcelona.

Chelsea will present a tough challenge having been rejuvenated under Thomas Tuchel and the German has masterminded two wins over City in recent weeks.

But the Liverpool legend, a European Cup winner himself, has backed the Manchester club to get the job done.

Chelsea and Man City will square off in the European Cup final

“Man City are the favourites because they won the league,” said McDonald’s Fun Football ambassador Dalglish,

“But, I must say, it is a really tough one to call. Chelsea have had a poor run of form recently with a couple of losses, but they have been transformed by Thomas Tuchel.

“In the Champions League they have put in some great performances. So, it could go either way and is a really tough call.

My predictions aren’t always that good – but if I had to choose then I would go with City.”

Dalglish admits he would love to see one homegrown talent take centre stage this weekend in compatriot Billy Gilmour.

The young midfielder won a call-up to Scotland’s Euro 2020 squad earlier this week and Dalglish hopes Saturday will be the start of a successful summer – should he make an appearance on Saturday.

“I’m not sure he will start to be honest. Everybody on the pitch is a key player. It’s who can dictate the key moments and who can provide it at either end of the pitch.
“But I do think he will have a huge future in football.

“He has done well when he was played and that’s been recognised with a call up to the Scotland Euros squad.”
