Canelo sets out conditions for world title shot against Usyk

Dana White chose to watch Canelo Alvarez’s defeat by Dmitry Bivol instead of the clash unfolding in front of him between Rose Namajunas and Carla Esparza at UFC 274.

Alvarez was outpointed by Bivol in a light-heavyweight title clash last night at the same time Namajunas was defending her strawweight title against Esparza. The champion was dethroned in Arizona in a fight which saw just 68 strikes landed over the 25-minute fight.

And White was pictured watching Alvarez’s title challenge against Bivol on a monitor while cageside for a fight branded “the most boring UFC fight ever” by fans. One fan tweeted: “Rose Namajunas celebrating before losing the most boring fight in UFC history.” Another commented: “I should have known from that elevator entrance music she had. She came to put the wrong person to sleep.”

Another joked: “Haha for real the most boring fight of all time. Dana White is angry as f*** right now.” One fan used it to make a mockery of Tony Ferguson who was knocked out on the card: “They were being careful not to step on Ferguson. He was still sleeping.”

Fans voiced their frustration by booing for large sections of the fight as well as during the post-fight interviews and White himself admitted he had “zoned out”. “It was a weird fight, it seemed like they didn’t want to engage,” White told reporters. “I think there was a total of six punches in the first round; it’s a tough one but it happens sometimes.

What did you make of Rose Namajunas’ defeat to Carla Esparza? Let us know in the comments section below

“I started zoning out halfway through it, so I don’t know [who won]. I don’t think anyone is clamouring for that rematch so we’ll have to think of something else.”

Namajunas was on a three-fight win streak ahead of her meeting with Esparza but was dethroned over the five-round distance. ‘Thug’ was extremely dejected after the fight claiming that she felt she deserved to have her hand raised.

“I won that fight,” said Namajunas. “I struck to the strategy, I felt as if I landed more shots. I even took her down. None of her takedowns were significant or with any control time. I’d say she hit me with one good punch. I felt like I did the damage. I controlled the fight. I’m proud of myself because I stuck to my strategy.

“I’ve gotten my nose broken. I’ve stood there and shed blood in the octagon. I stuck to the strategy, and she didn’t really have any offence. She was whiffing at air the whole time. So, I thought I won.”
