David Alaba confirms Bayern Munich exit on free transfer amid contract stalemate

David Alaba has confirmed he will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

The Austrian international has been a mainstay of the club’s defence for over a decade.

But he has confirmed that he will leave the Allianz Arena when his contract expires, as he seeks a new challenge.

Alaba, who has twice won the Champions League with Bayern, as well as being a key player in their Bundesliga dominance, confirmed on Tuesday: “I have personally made the decision to leave FC Bayern at the end of this season and try something new.

“It obviously wasn’t an easy decision – I’ve been here for 13 years and the club is very important to me.”

Alaba will leave Germany in his quest for a new challenge and is known to desire a switch to Real Madrid.

“Of course I took my time, after 13 years it’s not an easy decision.

“I then decided for myself to try something new, a new challenge. It took time.”

However, he insists that no decision has been made on his next club.

“First of all, I haven’t decided which club I’m going to join yet,” he added.

“This lies in the future and we will see.”
