David Seaman explains why he’s “surprised” by Mikel Arteta for wrong reasons

David Seaman admits he’s surprised Mikel Arteta has frozen out Mesut Ozil at Arsenal, saying ‘something must have gone on personally between them’.

World Cup winner Ozil discovered his fate at the start of the season when the Gunners boss decided to leave him out of both his Premier League and Europa League squad.

The decision was a very controversial one considering Ozil is both Arsenal’s longest-serving and best-paid player earning a staggering £350,000-a-week.

A number of pundits and former Arsenal players have had their say on the Ozil situation in recent months, and Seaman is the latest to give his opinion.

Seaman told The Target Men podcast: “I am surprised Arteta is choosing to leave out Mezut Ozil because he’s a player of quality.

Ozil discovered his fate at the start of the season

“I feel something has gone on personally between the two of them, because to leave him out, and on the money he’s on, is a big statement and for me it’s a bit of a waste, because he’s still a quality player.

“When you look at the Arsenal team, we’re crying out for a player like that, so why don’t you build your team around Ozil rather than just leaving him out in the field and letting him go.”
