Diogo Dalot is reportedly determined to stay at Manchester United and fight for his place after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked.

The defender has firmly been second choice to Aaron Wan-Bissaka this season and spent last term on loan at AC Milan.

Speculation that former manager Jose Mourinho wants to reunite with Dalot at Roma has been rife in recent weeks, but the 22-year-old is keen to stay put at Old Trafford and compete for a regular spot in the post-Solskjaer era.

The Sun say that Dalot is ‘convinced’ his future lies in Manchester, despite seeing less than 90 minutes of Premier League football this season.

Dalot reportedly wants to stay at Man Utd

Kieran Trippier has long been linked with a move to the Red Devils but remains highly valued by current employers Atletico Madrid, scuppering United’s hopes of signing of the ex- Tottenham Hotspur right-back.

Dalot will be hoping to make his mark before the January transfer window, with Michael Carrick now in charge as caretaker and the club set to appoint an interim boss until the end of the season.

Carrick’s first match is a crucial Champions League clash with Villarreal on Tuesday.

Dalot started the reverse fixture at Old Trafford but struggled to deal with winger Arnaut Danjuma.

In an interview with the Telegraph during the international break, the ex- Porto starlet outlined his plans to prove himself and admitted his competition with Wan-Bissaka is beneficial.

“The most beautiful and healthy competition is when there are two or three for each position and you can learn from each other,” Dalot explained.

“I’m sure Aaron learns some things from me when I play, I learn from him. Everyone is going to be a part of it this season.”

Solskjaer was reportedly convinced by the Portugal international’s performances in pre-season to keep him around, despite interest from Borussia Dortmund which seemingly hinged on whether or not Trippier signed.

Dalot has started just two games for Man Utd this season

Now in his fourth year at Old Trafford, Dalot is ready to kick on, having had ‘issues with his body’ before the temporary switch to the San Siro.

“My body was feeling those changes [in his first two year] and when I went to Milan it was perfect to balance everything and return to this season,” he added.

“That is why I wanted to stay here, fight for games and be an important player for the team.

“I wanted to stay here and the club trusted me to stay here. My mind was completely focused on having an important role in this team.”
