Dortmund chief praises Haaland action which shows he “identifies with team”

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke was thrilled to see Erling Haaland cheering his team-mates on so passionately from the stands at the weekend as he’s linked with the exit door.

The striker is attracting the interest of some of Europe’s heavyweight as speculation mounts he could quit the German club.

Champions League qualification could prove crucial given Haaland’s desire to test himself on the biggest stage.

But as the rumour mill continues the striker appeared to shut it all out as he roared his team on to German Cup victory at the weekend – a fact that pleased Dortmund’s chief.

Hans-Joachim Watzke is adamant the striker will be at the club next season

“He’s not letting anything get to him and he’s going full throttle,” he said.

“The way he was cheering along in the stands shows how much he identifies with his team.”

Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola has been seen in Spain holding discussions with Real Madrid and Barcelona, two of the sides chasing the Norwegian.

The super agent has never been shy in speaking publicly and suggested a deal could be done shortly.

Watzke though insists he has no issue with Raiola’s claims as he remains confident Haaland will still be at Dortmund next term.

“I’ve known Mino for a long time and get along well with him,” told Sport1 .

“You have to accept his idiosyncrasies. But he also knows the idiosyncrasies of Borussia Dortmund.

“He can give a new interview every day for all I care. It’s no problem for us. Erling Haaland will remain a BVB player next year.”

The 20-year-old has hit 37 goals this season despite Dortmund going through dips in form.
