Eddie Hall vs Hafthor Bjornsson boxing fight postponed due to injury

Eddie Hall has been forced to withdraw from his upcoming boxing match with Hafthor Bjornsson in Florida after suffering a “serious injury”.

The duo are two of the most renowned strongmen in the world, and were expected to clash in America after over a year of build-up in what was dubbed the ‘heaviest boxing match in history’.

But according to promoters MTK Global who were helping CoreSports to promote the event, former World’s strongest man winner Hall has suffered an injury which will require him to undergo surgery, pushing the bout back to March or April next year.

The event will still take place on September 18 at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Foriday, and Bjornsson may even compete in a third exhibition bout.

However, the promoters have been unable to guarantee a bout for Bjornsson to ticketholders, who will be offered refunds from the point of sale should they choose not to attend.

Hafthor Bjornsson won’t be fighting Eddie Hall in September

CrossFit rivals Josh Bridges and Jacob Heppner will now face off in the new main event, while the likes of Avril Mathie, Stefi Cohen and others will compete as well.

CoreSports have confirmed that anybody who has pre-ordered the pay-per-view of the bout will not only be given the chance to watch Hall v Bjornson when it does happen, but will also get the September fight card for free.

Bjornsson has been preparing intensely for the fight, training multiple times a day, dropping 50 lbs and taking exhibition matches with solid pros Steven Ward and Simon Vallily.

He most recently took on Commonwealth games medalist Vallily in Dubai, in a fight that saw both men hit the ground in a hard-hitting four rounds of action.

Valilly entered the ring a whopping 80 lbs lighter than his opponent, although his strong amateur background and 21 pro bouts made him the much more experienced fighter in what was essentially no more than a hard spar without headgear.

The Icelandic Game of Thrones star took a few strong shots from Commonwealth games gold medalist Valilly early, and was rocked in the second before being brutally put down in the third.

Earlier this year, Hall claimed that Bjornsson’s initial warm-up against Ward was the ‘biggest load of s***’, saying on his YouTube channel: “He didn’t land a single punch in three rounds.

“Anyone with any boxing tenacity about them, will know that was the biggest load of s*** that has probably ever happened in boxing.

“I want to say a big thank you to Thor for doing that match and putting it out on the internet, it has literally given me the best advantage that I have ever had.”

However, the Icelandic giant showed huge signs of improvement from that showing against Ward when he faced Valilly, and was likely to enter the ring as favourite against Hall.

The new date will be announced shortly, and as yet neither man has commented on the cancellation, although they have both been active on social media today.
