Edinson Cavani breaks silence over “unhappy” Man Utd claims

Edinson Cavani has spoken out for the first time since his father claimed he is unhappy at Manchester United.

Luis Cavani claimed his son “does not feel comfortable in England” and wants to be “close to his family” in his native Uruguay.

In an interview with Argentine outlet TyC Sports , Luis also declared his 34-year-old son would like to play for one of the country’s giant clubs: Boca Juniors.

Cavani signed a 12-month deal as he joined United on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain last year.

The Red Devils are keen to activate a clause to extend his stay for another season, and news the veteran striker wants to leave comes as a major blow to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The 34-year-old is not enjoying life in England and wants to return to South America, according to his father

But with three-and-a-half months remaining on his deal, Cavani has taken to social media to reaffirm his affection for United.

He posted a picture on Instagram and Twitter of him celebrating with his hand on his chest and wrote: “Proud to wear this shirt.”

Cavani is renowned for his work-rate and professionalism and will not want to depart on bad terms.

The experienced frontman has contributed seven goals and two assists this season to establish himself as Solskjaer’s preferred centre-forward and he is sure to play a major role in the run-in.

The Red Devils face AC Milan in the Europa League last 16 on Thursday and have an FA Cup quarter-final encounter with Leicester later this month.

Solskjaer’s men also sit second in the Premier League and will look to increase their stranglehold on a spot in next season’s Champions League.

Nonetheless, Luis Cavani insists it is only a matter of time before his son fulfils a lifelong dream of playing for Boca Juniors.

“Edinson is going to end up playing in South America,” said Luis. “I want Edinson to play in a team that fights for something important.

“Edinson had many conversations with [Boca vice-president Juan Roman] Riquelme and he would like to play for Boca. He was always seduced by the idea of playing in Boca.”
