England vs Andorra: World Cup qualifier – LIVE!

The Three Lions return to Wembley this afternoon for the first time since their heartbreaking Euro 2020 final shootout defeat to Italy in July.

Gareth Southgate is expecting a fantastic reception for his players, with fans set to unveil a banner in support of Bukayo Saka, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford ahead of today’s 2022 World Cup qualifier.

Having played in Hungary on Thursday in a 4-0 rout that was marred by vile racist abuse aimed at Raheem Sterling and Jude Bellingham by a section of the home crowd, and a trip to Poland to come on Wednesday, England will ring the changes for the clash with Andorra as the huge overwhelming favourites to continue their 100 per cent start in Group I.

The visitors are the 134th-ranked side in the world and have only ever won eight matches, though one of those victories came against San Marino earlier this week.

Andorra – a nation with a population that could easily fit into Wembley and leave around 13,000 seats to spare – have shipped 16 goals in their previous four matches against England and were hit for six on their last visit to London in 2009.

Standard Sport prediction

Poland put three past Andorra and Hungary four, and even with a changed side England should beat those figures.

Barring the two Andorra scored against San Marino they have only managed one other goal in qualifying so it should be a quiet night for whoever is in goal for the Three Lions.

No Sancho for England

Jadon Sancho missed the win over Hungary with an unspecified knock and will also be absent today and in Poland in midweek after returning to Manchester United for treatment.

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin withdrew from the squad before the trip to Budapest, leaving only Bamford as an understudy to captain Harry Kane.

England team news

With England having played in Hungary on Thursday and with a potentially tricky trip to Poland to come on Wednesday, Gareth Southgate is set to make plenty of changes against minnows Andorra today.

Wolves’ Conor Coady has been confirmed to start in defence, where the likes of Tyrone Mings and Kieran Trippier will hope to join him, with Trent Alexander-Arnold also expected to feature having returned to the squad after missing the Euros through injury.

Burnley’s Nick Pope should take over from Jordan Pickford in goal, meanwhile.

Jordan Henderson, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka and Jesse Lingard will also be pushing to start, while Leeds striker Patrick Bamford is in line to earn his first senior cap.
