Erling Haaland’s comments on Cristiano Ronaldo could sway his transfer decision

Erling Haaland looks set to be left with a massive decision to make this summer as some of the biggest clubs from around the continent attempt to convince the Norwegian star his future lies with them.

The 20-year-old is one of the most in-demand players in the world following his stunning performances for Dortmund in the Bundesliga and Champions League this season.

And his father Alf-Inge and agent Mino Raiola met for discussions with representatives from Barcelona and Real Madrid in Spain on Thursday before making their way to England to reportedly hold talks with Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea.

Erling Haaland has a big decision to make over his future

A bid of £150m or more is likely to tempt Dortmund to reluctantly let the forward go, and it could be down to Haaland himself to choose his next destination.

And judging by his previous comments, United and Madrid could have an advantage in the chase due to his desire to follow in the footsteps of the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo starred in Manchester for six seasons between 2003-09 before making the move to Real, where he won four Champions Leagues and established himself as undoubtedly one of the best players of all time.

And speaking to Portuguese outlet Record back in February 2020, Haaland said: “I would love to meet him and tell him that I am a footballer thanks to him. For me, he was always a role model.”

The fact that Ronaldo clearly means so much to Haaland hints that it would be a dream come true to follow his career path, and the legacy he left at both Old Trafford and Bernabeu will not go unnoticed.

Ronaldo and Haaland have never faced each other on the pitch, but if they ever do meet Ronaldo will no doubt put a good word in for his former teams.

It will be intriguing to see which club makes the first move in the race for Haaland, but it is certainly looking increasingly likely that he will be plying his trade away from Dortmund next season.

Whether or not that will be in the Premier League is anyone’s guess.
