EURO 2020 has its very own catchy theme song featuring well-known music stars

There will be more than one catchy tune knocking about this summer amid Euro 2020 fever – that you can be sure of.

Be it Three Lions, Vindaloo or even Scotland’s unofficial anthem ‘Yes Sir I Can Boogie’, you won’t have to listen far for a popular song.

And the tournament itself is doing its best to get in on the act with their own official theme song.

The tune, title “We Are The People,” has already been released, and it’s a collaboration between world-renowned DJ Martin Garrix and the band members of U2, lead singer Bono and guitarist The Edge.

UEFA describe the official theme song as “a song that looks at the challenges facing the world, while at the same time aiming to find a unified response to these issues.

“It is a hymn sheet from which everyone can sing, no matter where one is based, but it will have special relevance in Europe where the eyes of the world will be on the UEFA EURO.

“We Are The People hopes to reflect the positivity, hope and determination required for any team to succeed, as well as offering a sense of togetherness, which fits the theme of EURO 2020 – unity.”

The song was launched at Wembley Stadium with the famous arches being lit up in light blue.

Alongside this, a video of Garrix, Bono and The Edge appeared with the vocals too. This was then followed by a series of clips from football fans around the world coming together to play the sport and watch their nations.

Bono is the lead vocalist on the track, as well as the writer of the song’s lyrics, while fellow U2 band member, The Edge, is responsible for the theme’s guitar riffs.

Speaking on UEFA’s official site, Garrix said the following on the song:

“Creating the music for one of the biggest sports events in the world together with Bono and The Edge has been an incredible experience.

“I’m very proud of what we did together and excited to finally share it with the world!”

UEFA’s marketing director Guy-Laurent Epstein is “delighted” the song has now been released, and thinks the combination of football and music will aid in fan’s excitement for the competition.

“The long wait is almost over and we are delighted to officially unveil the official song for UEFA EURO 2020, We Are The People, which features some of the world’s most celebrated artists in Martin Garrix, Bono and The Edge,” he said.

“Football and music have the power of bringing people together. They are vectors of passion and emotion and combining them will extend further the fan celebration of the tournament, as well as reaching out to new audiences.

With the star-studded line-up we have pulled together to create the tournament’s official music, we are confident of doing just this.”

The chorus of the We Are The People goes as follows:

“We Are The People We’ve Been Waiting For

Out Of The Ruins Of Hate And War

Army Of Lovers Never Seen Before

We Are The People We’ve Been Waiting For

We Are The People Of The Open Hand

Streets Of Dublin To Notre Dame

We’ll Build It Better Than We Did Before

We Are The People We’ve Been Waiting For

We Are The People We’ve Been Waiting For”
