Everton vs Liverpool: Premier League – LIVE!

Rafa Benitez’s takes charge in a Merseyside derby for the 15th time in his career, though this is the first as Everton manager.

He is under pressure early in his time at Goodison Park, after a run of seven Premier League matches without a win. That’s Everton’s worst stretch for five years, and defeat against Liverpool will only exacerbate his problems.

The club have been unfortunate with injuries in recent weeks, but there is already little appetite for excuses with Everton just five points off the relegation zone.

The Reds have not lost on enemy territory since 2010, though they do lose the last derby at Anfield, and come into the match just two points off the top of the table.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have been at their free-flowing best for much of the campaign, scoring eight goals more than any other side in the league, and comfortably more than double Everton’s tally.

Home side have arrived

The Everton players are in the building. Big night for them, looking to secure the club’s first win at Goodison Park over Liverpool since 2010.

Plenty of them were involved in February when Everton won at Anfield for the first time in more than 20 years…

Form often goes out the window in derby matches but Liverpool really do have a stranglehold on the Merseyside contest. With Benitez’s side simply unable to score at the moment, the visitors are the heavy favourites.

Liverpool team news

Klopp confirmed ahead of the game that Roberto Firmino is still a week away from a return from a thigh injury with Joe Gomez (calf) and Naby Keita (thigh) nearing their comebacks to full training.

The Reds picked up no fresh injury issues at the weekend but are without Harvey Elliott (ankle) and Curtis Jones (eye).

Everton team news

Everton could do with having Dominic Calvert-Lewin back from a thigh problem this week as the striker nears his recovery, with Yerry Mina (thigh) also not thought to be far off. Tom Davies (knee) and Andre Gomes (calf) remain out.

Mason Holgate is suspended but Richarlison is back in the mix after serving his one-game ban at Brentford.
