Fallon Sherrock makes history with Grand Slam of Darts victory

allon Sherrock has become the first female player in history to reach the quarter-finals of a televised PDC event following victory over Mensur Suljovic at the Grand Slam of Darts on Thursday night.

The trailblazer famously beat the Austrian during her historic 2019 World Championship run and recorded the same result in Wolverhampton as she recovered from 2-0 down to win 10-5.

Sherrock had already picked up one comeback scalp to edge out of the group stage on what is her tournament debut and now faces 2020 world champion Peter Wright for a place in the last four.

Her comeback against Suljovic started with a 100 finish followed by a 124 checkout to level the scores, after which she increasingly dominated the match.

“It wasn’t the greatest of games but I don’t care, I’ll take the win,” she said afterwards. “I’m just so proud of myself, I’m so happy. There was more pressure on me tonight but I’ve tried to keep it out of my head and focus.

“I love the crowd, I feed off the buzz. I want them to be out of their seats when I hit big scores.”

Sherrock has already faced Wright once at the event, losing 5-1 during the group stage.

On her chances of revenge on Saturday night, she said: “I’m really looking forward to playing Peter. Hopefully I can hit the doubles I missed against him last time out and it will be a closer game.”

Wright himself had booked a quarter-final spot by edging out defending champion Jose de Sousa 10-9.
