Brentford face Swansea City at Wembley in the match dubbed ‘the richest game in football’ with a place in the Premier League at stake
The Championship play-off final – the game often dubbed ‘the richest in football’ – takes place this Saturday.
Both Brentford and Swansea City will be targeting victory and the riches it brings with it. Not least of all a place in the Premier League.
For the Swans, it would mean a return to the top flight after being relegated in 2018.
As for Thomas Frank’s side, if they were to earn promotion it would represent a chance to play at the top table of English football for the first time since 1947.
And it appears a clear winner has already been identified.
Fans who voted in our promotion battle survey were asked to choose from the four teams who competed in the play-offs; Brentford, Swansea, Barnsley and Bournemouth.
And the Bees came out on top with a significant proportion of the votes. Forty-three per cent of voters believe they will prosper on Saturday.
As for the Swans, they gained 18 per cent of the votes – exactly the same as beaten play-off semi-finalists Barnsley.
The two regular league meetings between the two teams earlier this season both ended 1-1, giving little away as to how Saturday’s game could pan out.
Our survey also asked fans to choose which team they think will earn promotion NEXT season.
And most fans believe that the Cottagers are likeliest to enjoy a straight return to the top flight.
