Ferdinand demands Man Utd complete Haaland transfer whatever the price

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has urged his old side to do whatever it takes in order to sign Erling Haaland.

The Red Devils were heavily linked with the Norwegian, before he opted to join Borussia Dortmund at the start of 2020.

Since moving to Germany, Haaland has continued to enhance his reputation as one of the game’s best strikers, scoring 47 goals in just 48 matches.

The 20-year-old could be on the move this summer, with a host of Europe’s top clubs monitoring the situation.

And Ferdinand believes he will make the move to the Premier League and in order to not allow their rivals to sign him, United must do everything it takes to land him.

“You know what, they’ve just got to go and give everything to get Haaland, I don’t care,” he said on his Vibe with FIVE YouTube show.

“I don’t like to talk about players coming from other teams but this guy man, we can’t afford to let this guy go anywhere else.

“His only destination is England, that’s the only place he’s going. If he goes anywhere else I’d be so surprised.

“Born here, born and bred. He obviously loves English football, his dad played here. I’m sure it’s one of his dreams to come and play in England.

“Why not in the red shirt at Old Trafford? Be the guy that brings trophies back to Man Utd and brings the successful period back. Be that guy.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer coached a young Haaland during his stint as Molde boss and admitted that he has remained in contact throughout his stint at Dortmund.

The United boss said earlier this month: “I think when you’ve had kids and players through as a coach you follow them of course and I keep in touch with Erling.

“And it’s great to see him become the player he has become and I know he’ll work to improve all the time.

“He’s a Dortmund player and we just wish him well there and let’s see what life will bring later on.”

Pressed on his interest in Haaland, Solskjaer added: “Everybody would say you would take the best players in the world and Erling is a top player. But for me, the recruitment we’ve done has done well.

“We have to complement what we have in our group with other different types of players and also young players. I’m happy with our recruitment model and the processes that we go through.”

Meanwhile, Dortmund CEO Michael Zorc has said they will do all they can to keep him as they will be unable to replace his prolific scoring ability.

“I have never seen someone like him. We can search Europe-wide,” he told Welt am Sonntag   .

“If he ever left us somewhere, there would only be a handful of clubs, but we’ll try to keep him as long as possible for sporting reasons.”
