Furious FIFA 22 players have taken to social media about receiving their OTW pre-order bonus pack, only for it not to contain a OTW player.

The Ultimate Edition of FIFA 22 came with a number of bonuses for players who pre-ordered the game including the ability access the game early, before the worldwide release date. The other pre-order bonuses included with the Ultimate Edition were Dual Entitlement (free upgrade to PS5/Xbox Series S/X), 4600 FIFA Points, Team of the Week 1 Player item, Kylian Mbappé Loan item, FUT Ambassador Loan Player Pick and a Career Mode Homegrown Talent.

But players who pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition of FIFA 22 before October 1, 2021 were also guaranteed an untradeable Ones to Watch (OTW) player item.

Ones to Watch, or OTW, player items are dynamic items that have the potential to upgrade based on how players perform for their new clubs. As players earn Team of the Week and Man of the Match Items throughout the season, their OTW Items will upgrade, too.

On Thursday evening, EA confirmed the Ones to Watch Team 1 lineup, featuring player items like Cristiano Ronaldo, David Alaba, Jack Grealish, Saul Niguez, Raphael Varane and more.

Fans then started to notice that their OTW untradeable pre-order pack, which is supposed to contain one untradable OTW player, was appearing in the store section of their Ultimate Team mode, Web App and Companion App.

As the latest football simulation video game is about to drop, we’ve found all the places you can buy it online – for all platforms including PlayStation, Xbox and more.

Naturally, some FIFA 22 players opened these packs eager to receive their items, only to receive standard gold player items, not the OTW item as promised.

This is because the OTW Team 1 isn’t officially in packs until Friday October 1 at 18:00 BST. And although EA did put a notice in the small print that is the pack description, stating that the pack “must be opened on or after October 1st 2021, 17:00 UTC (18:00 BST)”, these packs were clearly released before intended and therefore, fans have been venting their fury on social media after opening them before the stated time.

Here are some of the best reactions regarding this issue on social media.

Following the fury on social media, EA have now acknowledged the issue and offered an update for players who opened their OTW packs and didn’t receive a OTW player as promised.

“OTW Pre-Order Player Packs were unintentionally released prior to OTW Player Items being in FIFA 22,” Said EA via their @EAFIFADirect Twitter account.

“OTW Pre-Order Packs currently can’t be opened while we investigate the issue. Players who opened their Pack prior to OTW release will receive a new OTW Pack in the coming days.”

The Ones to Watch (OTW) promo is a yearly event that is released by EA in correlation with the FIFA release date, and the promo consists of giving a special dynamic item to all the high-profile and attention-drawing players who have transferred clubs during the summer transfer window.

And brand-new for FIFA 22, OTW Items will be eligible for a ‘Wins to Watch’ upgrade, a one-time, +1 In-Form boost given to an OTW Item if their new club wins five out of their next ten domestic league games starting from October 1, 2021.

The FIFA 22 OTW Team 1 is set to be available from October 1 to 8, with the first mini release happening on October 3 and ending the same day.

Team 2 will then be released on October 8 and end on October 13, with the second mini release dropping on October 10 and also finishing on the 13th.

Players who pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition of FIFA 22 will receive an untradable, guaranteed OTW item on October 1. However, the item you receive will be based on when you open your pack containing the player, meaning you could save your pack and get a player from Team 2 instead.
