Fiji see third Autumn Nations Cup match against Scotland cancelled

iji’s third and final pool match at the Autumn Nations Cup, against Scotland in eight days’ time, has been cancelled – but tournament organisers have still not ruled them out of the entire tournament.

“The extent of infection in the Fiji camp, combined with a minimum 10-day isolation period, plus the obvious need for suitable preparation for any international test match meant that, whilst difficult, the decision was unavoidable,” read a statement from Autumn Nations Cup organisers on Friday.

It is still hoped, however, that Fiji will have overcome the outbreak in time to play in the finals round on the weekend of December 5.

They will automatically finish bottom of Pool B and would play against the team that finishes in that position in Pool A.

“The tournament organisers remain in constant contact with the Fijian squad regarding their wellbeing and recovery which continues to be the number one priority,” the ANC’s statement continued.

“The Fiji team and the organisers are hopeful that the fourth match on December 5th against the team that will finish in 4th place in Pool A will be able to take place, subject to checks on fitness levels once the players come out of isolation and following all appropriate protocols.”

The Autumn Nations Cup will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video from November 13.
