Fiji’s second Autumn Nations Cup clash called off after Covid-19 cases

iji have seen their second game of the Autumn Nations Cup called off after recording 29 cases of Covid-19 in their camp.

Fiji’s opener against France on Sunday was called off after a string of cases, including for star Bristol back Semi Radradra, at their French base. France were awarded a 28-0 win, with a bonus point.

Now the fixture against Italy, that was due to be played in Ancona on Saturday, has also been called off.

“The decision was taken after the latest round of COVID-19 tests undertaken yesterday by the Fijian team returned 29 positive cases this morning,” said the tournament organisers.

This surely signals the end of Fiji’s tournament. They are due to play Scotland at Murrayfield on November 28 as well as a match on the finals weekend. Despite tournament organisers remaining in “constant contact” with Fiji, those games seem likely to be called off.

“The main priority at present is the welfare of all players and management,” said a statement. “The potential impact on Fiji’s remaining matches is currently under review.”

The Autumn Nations Cup will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video from November 13. Get in on the action by subscribing to Amazon Prime. It costs £7.99 a month, £79 a year or try a 30-day free trial.
