Five Chelsea deals that could happen on transfer deadline day

Chelsea have had a fairly hectic month off the pitch, but are yet to make a splash in the January transfer market, though that could all change on transfer deadline day.

The Blues have so far used the window to offload players, with Fikayo Tomori and Danny Drinkwater have left on loan, while Lucas Piazon departed after seven straight loan spells.

But there could be more business done before the deadline, with new boss Thomas Tuchel set to decide over the futures of numerous players in his squad.

There are no gaping holes in the team, and their £250million summer spending spree has put them in a good position to compete.

Here, Mirror Sport looks at five deals that could happen before the deadline closes.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel could use January transfer deadline day to offload players

Billy Gilmour

Billy Gilmour is expected to depart on loan, and Tuchel left him out of his 18-man squad entirely for Sunday’s win over Burnley.

The young Scotsman is said to be eager to get a loan deal sorted in order to get some first-team football, and there are no shortage of interested clubs.

A number of Premier League sides are said to be interested, and he has also attracted the attention of some top-half Championship clubs.

Given his desire to leave and the fact Tuchel doesn’t seem to want to integrate him immediately, it’s probable that he’ll leave.

Olivier Giroud

Gilmour could be followed out of the door by Olivier Giroud, with the Frenchman’s contract set to expire this summer.

The striker was a favourite of Lampard towards the end of his time at the club, but was disappointing in Tuchel’s first game and left out of his second.

Giroud is out of contract at the end of the season, and it’s entirely possible that he’ll be sold today in order to get some first-team football.

He is eager to play consistently before the European Championships, and might be third in the pecking order behind Tammy Abraham and Timo Werner under Tuchel.

Kepa Arrizabalaga

Chelsea’s previous record signing Kepa Arrizabalaga’s time at the club has gone from bad to worse.

The goalkeeper has only played six times in all competitions this season, featuring just three times in the Premier League.

He’s been left on the bench twice by Tuchel, and it seems his confidence is completely shot to pieces.

Chelsea are said to be interested in a move for Gianluigi Donnarumma this summer, and it might be best for the Blues to offload Arrizabalaga in order to cut their losses now.

Emerson Palmieri

Chelsea left-back Emerson Palmieri could be sold today due to his lack of playing time.

The Blues have Ben Chilwell and Marcos Alonso ahead of him, and it seems unlikely he’ll get any significant minutes this season.

Palmieri is out of contract in the summer of 2022, and it seems incredibly unlikely he will extend.

Chelsea won’t want to let him leave for nothing, and will therefore want to get rid as soon as possible in order to prevent that from happening.

Inter Milan are said to be interested.

Gianluigi Donnarumma

As previously mentioned, Donnarumma is still believed to be a target for Chelsea.

The AC Milan wonderkid, 21, has been first-choice at the San Siro since he was 16, but it seems his time at the club could come to an end.

Donnarumma is out of contract at the end of the season, and talks over an extension have apparently “frozen”, according to Milan chief Paolo Maldini.

The goalkeeper could sign a pre-contract agreement with Chelsea, and it is entirely possible they will make a move if Arrizabalaga is sold.
