Rangnick ‘couldn’t possibly turn down’ Man Utd role

Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani is reportedly “looking around” for new clubs with his contract at Old Trafford expiring next season.

The former Paris Saint-Germain hitman will be free to negotiate and even sign a pre-contract with prospective clubs from the first of January.

Cavani signed a one-year extension with the club in May however, United’s acquisition of Cristiano Ronaldo has seen him lose his shirt number and his place in the starting eleven.

And considering the 34-year-old has only started two Premier League matches this season, any possibilities of the Uruguayan signing another extension appear extremely slim.

As Cavani ponders his next destination, Mirror Football consider five possible destinations for ‘El Matador’.

Juventus are reportedly considering Cavani as a possible option in January

Reports from Tuttosport have claimed Massimiliano Allegri’s side are strongly considering the prospect of signing Cavani.

Juventus have struggled for goals this season, as centre-forwards Alvaro Morata, Moise Kean, Paulo Dubala, and Kaio Jorge have only found the net a combined nine times in Serie A this season.

The Bianconeri are also believed to be considering a move for Dusan Vlahovic in the future, however, the Fiorentina superstar has already said he does not want to leave the club in January.

And it is also believed Allegri’s side have earmarked Cavani and PSG star Mauro Icardi as possible options for the January window.

Cavani has an inside out knowledge of Serie A having spent six years in the division with Napoli and Palermo.

A move to Juventus could be the perfect move for Cavani.

Barcelona have expressed a very firm interest in signing Edison Cavani on a free transfer

Numerous reports have claimed the Catalans are also courting Cavani as a potential bargain signing.

Barcelona ’s transfer purse strings are still tight, with the club still trying to alleviate the financial burden that has plagued them since last summer.

It is believed Xavi’s side are either considering low cost purchases of free transfers, and they don’t come much better than Cavani.

Reports from The Times have already stated Cavani is extremely interested in a move to the Blaugrana when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Boca Juniors

Cavani has reportedly always been intoxicated with Boca Juniors

While many reports have claimed Cavani believes he can still play at the top level of European football for at least another two years, contrasting comments from the striker’s father claimed he wants to return home to South America.

And Boca Juniors appear to be the team he would be most willing to play for, according to an interview his father did with TyC Sports (Via Manchester Evening News ).

“My son does not feel comfortable in England and wants to be close to the family again,” he claimed in March 2020.

“Edinson is going to end up playing in South America. I want Edinson to play in a team that fights for something important.

“Edinson had many conversations with Riquelme and he would like to play for Boca. He was always seduced by the idea of playing in Boca. If he returns to South America he is leaning towards Boca.”

An emotional return to Uruguay has also been heavily speculated with Cavani

Before Cavani moved to Old Trafford, it appeared the striker was on his way to Uruguayan giants Penarol.

In fact, the moved appeared to be signed, sealed, and delivered after Penarol midfielder, and close friend of Cavani, Christian Rodriguex claimed he’s “About to come” to the club.

“I have the authority to talk about Edi,” he said to FM Del Sol, via the Sun.

“He’s about to come to Penarol and I can’t say anything else. “Call him and ask him.”

While the move did not materialise at the time, it appears there is enough to suggest Cavani could be buoyed with a move back to his home country.

Cavani scored over 100 goals during his three seasons with Napoli

Edinson Cavani became one of the most feared strikers in world football during his time at Napoli.

He scored an astonishing 104 goals in 140 appearances, as well as contributing 14 assists.

Cavani also hammered home 29 goals in 34 matches, prompting PSG to sign him for £55m.

Despite a recent blip in form which has seen Luciano Spaletti’s side only record one victory in their last five Serie A matches, Napoli are well in the title race, and remain on course to qualify for Champions League football.

An emotional return to Naples could be the perfect way to end his time in European football.
