Marine boss Neil Young will go head-to-head with Jose Mourinho in the FA Cup third round – four years after quitting management forever.
The Northern Premier League Division One North West minnows landed the tie of their dreams with Premier League title chasers Tottenham Hotspur heading to Merseyside.
Eighth tier Marine – the second lowest ranked club ever to reach this stage – could bank £250,000 from the early January game.
Marine, who beat Havant and Waterlooville to reach the third round, sit a staggering 167 places below Tottenham in the footballing pyramid.
Young said goodbye to the game for good back in 2016 after leaving Altrincham.
He released a statement after his departure saying “it’s the right time to ultimately retire from the dug-out” – and stressed he wouldn’t be back.
But Marine are thankful he changed his mind two years ago as they gear up for one of the greatest ties in third round history.
Young said: “What an incredible game for the club, it doesn’t get much better than that really.
“Jose Mourinho at Marine! It’s fantastic.
“We can’t wait – it’s a wonderful reward for everyone at the club who work so hard to keep it going.
“We will plan as best we can. Usually with Jose’s teams, he puts pretty strong sides out.
“We have won seven games to get here and this is just incredible.”
