“Whilst no fault has been apportioned to Fiji Rugby, the competition rules provide that if a team is primarily responsible for a match not taking place, a 28-0 victory will be awarded to the opposition that could have played the match,” organisers said in an official statement.
France now top Group B ahead of their crunch clash with Scotland at Murrayfield on Sunday. Fiji remain in the competition and are due to play Italy on Saturday.
“We wish the affected Fiji players well as they continue their recovery and are working closely with the Fiji team, to ensure that they are able to field a competitive team against Italy,” continued the ANC statement.
England will name a slimmed-down squad of around 28 players on Tuesday afternoon ahead of their game against Ireland on Saturday. Around 10 players will be released to their clubs to prepare for the opening round of Premiership action this weekend.
