Frank Lampard likens Harry Kane impact on Spurs to Eden Hazard’s on Chelsea

Frank Lampard reckons Tottenham would take the same hit if Harry Kane were to leave them that Chelsea suffered when Eden Hazard quit for Real Madrid 17 months ago.

Lampard knows it could be some time before a player of the Belgian’s quality graces Stamford Bridge again.

And he has told Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic not to worry about filling his shoes but to focus on doing it their way instead.

Lampard said: “It is very hard to fill one-for-one a player of Eden’s talents.

“His input at the club was huge.

“I’ve been talking a lot about Harry Kane today and it’s an impact relative to the kind Harry has had with goals and assists they make for their team.

If Kane were to leave Spurs they would feel the same sort of impact Chelsea felt when Hazard left, according to Frank Lampard

“To lose that, you have to try to find a way around it.

“With the transfer ban last year, it was more about the younger players coming in and how we could become more efficient as a team.

“We made really good steps and now, with the players we have brought in, I would hate to give any of them the job or idea of ‘you must replace Eden’.

“They have to focus on themselves.

“We have brought talent into the squad, no doubt.

“I remember Eden’s first year or two at Chelsea.

“It was clear what an amazing player he was going to become but he also needed time to become that great player we all now know and love as Chelsea people.

“The players we brought in all have potential in their own way but I won’t be throwing Eden Hazard comparisons at them.

“They have to do it in their own way, Eden was very special.”

In the last five weeks, since recovering from injury, Ziyech has certainly started to give his manager a glimpse of his talents.

Lampard added: “He has made a great impact.

“I love working with him because he trains very well, affects people around him, has great individual talent, works in the gym, works on his rehab.

Christian Pulisic was seen by many as a replacement for Hazard but his boss Frank Lampard refuses to put that pressure on him

“So I have been absolutely impressed in every sense since he has been at the club and he has delivered on the pitch and in a short space of time.

“I expect more and naturally he will expect more, because he has shown real quality to show that he has become accustomed to the league very quickly.

“This is one of the reasons I brought him to the club.

“I thought he could be a real talent to bring here and to bring something different in his style and the way he plays.

“He has shown that and I expect him to show more.”

New boy Hakim Ziyech has impressed boss Lampard and Chelsea fans since recovering from injury

What Lampard expects his whole group to show today is focus and concentration as they come up agains his old boss Jose Mourinho.

Lampard said: “My only feeling for a game of this size against a rival like Tottenham is that the players must absolutely fill the focus and concentration levels needed for this game.

“We’ll deal with the tactics and we’ll have a plan of how we want to work against Tottenham to bring the best things in us but focus and concentration, two really simple words, will be huge in a game of this level.”
