Furious Arteta responds to Lacazette’s Arsenal comments

Furious Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has responded to Alexandre Lacazette’s claims that the Gunners ‘didn’t respect’ their manager’s game plan against West Ham.

Arteta’s men found themselves three goals down within the first 35 minutes of the match after Jesse Lingard, Jarrod Bowen and Tomas Soucek all scored.

Though the visitors did somehow claim a point after own goals from Soucek and Craig Dawson, as well as Lacazette’s equaliser, the Frenchman was unimpressed by his side’s performance.

Remarkably, Lacazette revealed his team-mates did not follow Arteta’s game plan for the Premier League clash, before they eventually turned the game around.

Alexandre Lacazette was less than impressed by Arsenal’s performance, despite scoring

“The feeling is mixed because I’m proud of my team for coming back in the second half and disappointed with the first half,” he told Sky Sports.

“We didn’t respect the game plan of the coach. This is not what we wanted but we have to think about it. Maybe we had the pressure because we knew it was a big game.”

And Arteta shared his player’s frustration at the Gunners’ performance in the first-half.

“The first goal it can happen, it’s a really good combination they do that they play that channel ball, they have players in the box. It’s a brilliant goal. It’s fine,” he told Sky Sports when asked about Lacazette’s comments.

“When we concede the second goal it’s unacceptable, the third goal is unacceptable. We still give them one more after the throw-in. They hit the post.

“It’s too much margins because then you have to score six every game. For the rest, the desire, the attitude that we showed and the togetherness we showed because 3-1 is difficult.

“But I have no doubt because we talked about it and I can see in training every day the energy and cohesion the players have. I think we deserved to win in the end but the first part really worries me.”

Arteta also branded their performance as ‘unacceptable’.

“I am very disappointed because I cannot accept my team to play the way we did in certain periods in the first half,” he said.

“The goals we conceded. Because what I expect is the team to play the level that we showed afterwards. We played incredibly well, we should have scored six or seven goals.

“But we have two phases. The first phase is about giving goals to the opponent and not doing what we have to do. It’s not good enough.”
