Furious Gabriel Magalhaes takes to Instagram over Arsenal refereeing decision

Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes was furious with the decision to send off his team-mate David Luiz in the Gunners’ dramatic 2-1 defeat to Wolves on Tuesday.

Mikel Arteta’s side were 1-0 up as half-time approached thanks to a goal from Nicolas Pepe, but the game turned on its head just before the break.

With Wolves striker Willian Jose through on goal, the 29-year-old went down after apparent contact from Luiz and referee Craig Pawson awarded a penalty and sent the defender off.

Ruben Neves converted the spot kick to level things up before Joao Moutinho fired Wolves in front early on in the second-half.

Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno was also dismissed after handling the ball outside his box in the 72nd minute.

However, it was Luiz’s red card which was the turning point in the match and Gabriel has reacted angrily on Instagram.

The Brazilian posted a screenshot of the incident with athree angry emojis and the caption “is this for a red card?”

Gabriel’s anger was also shared by his manager, who does not believe that Luiz made contact with his opponent.

Speaking after the game, Arteta said: “It was a big decision that changed the game and if they can justify that they got it right then I will hold up my hands and apologise.

“But I’ve seen the replay 10 times now and I’m sitting here and I still can’t see any contact. I would like to see if VAR have got a different angle and have seen something I can’t see.

“I’m watching it expecting to see something but I can’t.

“Of course it changed the game. We’ve had to play half the game without David. We dominated the first half and could have been three or four goals up.

“But it’s the way we lost that really hurts. It’s painful. It’s hard enough to win games in the Premier League without that happening.”
