Tyson Fury has vowed to ‘crack Deontay Wilder’s skull again’ with a trilogy fight between the two heavyweights appearing to stand in the way of the Gypsy King’s proposed bout with Anthony Joshua.
It had looked only a matter of time before Fury’s much-anticipated clash with fellow Brit AJ would be announced, with an August 14 date in Saudi Arabia pencilled in.
But on Monday those plans were plunged into turmoil after an arbitrator ruled that Fury would be required to take on Wilder for a third time by September 15 due to a contract clause.
There had been hopes from British boxing fans that Wilder may accept a walk-away offer to step aside and allow the Fury vs AJ fight to go ahead.
But judging by Fury’s story on Instagram this does not appear to be the case, in news which will come as a bitter disappointment to many.
Fury said: “What a joke @bronzebomber has become. Asked for 20 million to move over #joker. Looks like I’ll have to crack his skull again!”
And he later added a picture of a lizard to his story along with the caption “there’s Deontay right there the reptile.”
Fury has already drawn with and beaten Wilder, and there is no doubt that there is more appetite for a fight against Joshua from the public than there is to see him do battle with the Bronze Bomber again.
But it is looking increasingly likely that the all-British bout will be forced to be put back, and could even be called off altogether.
