Gareth Bale admits decision on future would cause “drama” in retirement response

Gareth Bale has admitted he believes his announcement on his future will cause “drama”, and has refused to rule out retiring from football entirely.

Bale returned to Madrid after the end of his loan spell at Tottenham with his future very much up in the air.

The Welshman has a year to run on his Real Madrid contract and has been tipped to leave this summer rather than stay for another year and face the prospect of sitting on the bench.

However, when asked about his future after the final game of his Spurs loan, Bale said his announcement would cause “chaos” and refused to give anything away.

And now, the 31-year-old has declared that any announcement would bring “drama” to the Wales camp for the European Championships.

Bale is currently away with the Wales squad for the Euros, and is expected to make a decision over his future after.

There have been rumours circling that the winger could retire from football, especially as he previously indicated that taking Wales to the 2022 World Cup could be the final act of his career.

And speaking on Monday, Bale said: “Obviously there’s been a lot of things written about whether I’m doing this and doing that.

“For me, the main thing is I don’t want to say anything that’s going to cause more chaos or more drama or cause a distraction. I just want to focus on this Euros.

“I don’t want to say anything that is going to cause any problems on what I am doing or what I am not doing.

“My focus is just on the Euros. When the Euros finishes for us then I will sit down and decide what I want to do.”

Bale then insisted that he doesn’t know what he wants to do after the upcoming tournament, and would instead wait until afterwards before making a decision.

“Yeah, well. It’s one of those. As I said, I’ll sit down after the Euros and decide what I want to do,” he said.

“I want to give everything into this Euros and put in everything I can like we do in every single game. If I say something then it’s just going to cause even more chaos so there’s no point.”
