Giggs will not manage Wales for next 3 games after arrest over alleged assault

Ryan Giggs will not manage Wales for the next three games following his arrest over an alleged assault on his girlfriend Kate Grenville.

Police were called to a disturbance at a property in Worsley on Sunday night.

The Football Association of Wales confirmed Robert Page will take charge of matches against the USA, Ireland and Finland.

In a statement, they said: “The Football Association of Wales and Ryan Giggs have mutually agreed that he will not be involved in the upcoming international camp.

“Our agreed immediate priority is preparing the team for the upcoming international matches.

“Robert Page, with Ryan’s support, will take charge for the next three matches against the USA, Republic of Ireland and Finland supported by Albert Stuivenberg. 

“The Cymru squad for these upcoming matches will be announced on Thursday 5th November.

“The FAW will not be making any further comment at this current time.”

A representative for Giggs said he denied the allegations and he is cooperating with police.

The statement said: “Mr Giggs denies all allegations of assault made against him. He is cooperating with the police and will continue to assist them with their ongoing investigations.”

Giggs has been dating Grenville on and off for three years, according to reports.

The 46-year-old is reported to have been at Hotel Football in Manchester to watch United play Arsenal earlier on Sunday, before heading to the Stock Exchange Hotel which he also co-owns.

Greater Manchester Police said: “Police were called at 10.05pm on Sunday to reports of a disturbance. A woman in her 30s sustained minor injuries but did not require any treatment.

“A 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of section 47 assault and section 39 common assault.”

The man was released on bail pending further enquiries.
