Greenwood ruled out of England squad for U21 Euros

The forward has been replaced in Aidy Boothroyd’s 23-man party by Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell, with Rhian Brewster and Eddie Nketiah among the forwards still available.

Greenwood made his senior debut earlier this season but has not been involved in Gareth Southgate’s squad since being sent home from Iceland in September for breaching coronavirus restrictions.

The group and knockout stages of the tournament are being held separately, with the former taking place during the current international break and the latter at the end of the club season.

England begin their group stage campaign against Switzerland in Slovenia, before facing Portugal and Croatia.
