Guardiola offers triple Man City injury update before Tottenham clash

However, Rodri was replaced by youngster Claudio Gomes with less than 20 minutes remaining at the Liberty Stadium after being hurt during a challenge with Yan Dhanda.

The 24-year-old is a mainstay of the City midfield, starting all but two of their League matches so far this term.

Guardiola’s side host Spurs at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening as they look to further extend their five-point lead at the summit before closest challengers Manchester United meet West Brom on Sunday, though it remains to be seen if Rodri will be ready for that high-profile contest.

“I didn’t speak with him [Rodri] but the doctor didn’t tell me anything,” said the City boss after Wednesday’s latest triumph.

“Hopefully, he will be fit. We will see in the next hours.

“He’s playing really well. His presence, his personality. He is playing really well, like the last few weeks. He has [played well] all season, I would say.”

City were already without Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero and Nathan Ake in South Wales, while record signing Ruben Dias and captain Fernandinho were also absent.

The latter duo will also now be considered doubtful for the visit of Jose Mourinho’s Spurs, with Guardiola adding: “Ruben had a fever.

“He still has some problems with the stomach. That’s why he couldn’t train yesterday.

“Fernandinho had some problems, some niggles in the quads and he was not able to come here to play.”
