Pep Guardiola insists he is “delighted” with the squad he has at Manchester City as the club’s move for Cristiano Ronaldo was thrown into doubt.

Ronaldo has been widely expected to join City following talks between his agent Jorge Mendes as the club in recent days, only for United to dramatically enter the race on Friday.

talkSPORT report that United are now “confident” of a deal that would blow City out of the water.

Speaking at his own press conference, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spoke of a possible move for the club’s former favourite.

“I didn’t think Cristiano was gonna turn out leaving Juventus,” Solskjaer said.

“And it’s been speculation this morning and the last few days.

“We’ve always had good communication. I know Bruno [Fernandes]’s been talking to him as well and he knows what we feel about him. And if he was ever gonna move away from Juventus he knows we’re here.

“We focus on the ones we have there, I don’t want to speculate too much on Cristiano, what’s happening there with the press.

“I’ve said many times with speculation, when you’re Man United, when you’re Ronaldo, when you’re Messi, when you’re Pogba, when you’re Bruno, you have to read a lot about yourselves. So let’s see what happens with Cristiano, he’s such a legend of this club.”

Guardiola was speaking at the same time as Solskjaer, and was hesistant to confirm the next steps of any move for the 36-year-old forward.

Addressing the failure to sign Harry Kane and the move for Ronaldo, he said: “I cannot say much.

“Harry Kane announced he is continuing to his club, an exceptional club like Tottenham.

“Cristiano is a Juventus player and I can’t say anything else. All I can say in these three, four days left of the transfer window anything can happen.

“Right now I am more than delighted with the squad we have and we will stay the same.

“I say the same; Cristiano will decide where he wants to play, not Manchester City, not myself. There are many things that are far away.

“I am incredibly happy with the squad I have. More than satisfied.

“We are the same guys except Sergio (Aguero) left and Jack (Grealish) arrived. I focus on what we have to do and the players we have right now.”
