Will Haaland leave Dortmund this summer?

Erling Haaland’s wage demands have come to light and if he gets his wish, he will earn more than Cristiano Ronaldo a week.

Borussia Dortmund might be powerless over his departure in the summer with a reported £68m release clause set to come into effect.

A host of European clubs are interested in the 21-year-old, who has started the season in breathtaking fashion.

Haaland has 13 goals in all competitions, including nine in six Bundesliga appearances to take his total for the club to 70 in 69 matches.

Manchester City are the hot favourites to sign the Leeds-born ace after making a striker a top priority following their failure to sign Harry Kane in the summer.

But they face a fight on their hands with Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona all interested in the youngster.

With such a race on for the Norway international, his agent Mino Raiola knows his client’s worth and is prepared to fight for some hefty wages.

According to ESPN, Haaland is set to ask for a mouthwatering £30m-a-year – which works out in excess of £500,000-a-week.

For comparison, Ronaldo is earning around £480,000-a-week at United despite his status as one of the best players in the world.

The Red Devils would love to sign the Dortmund star, and missed out on him in 2019, but the finances would be difficult – especially with the Portugal international’s salary included.

And that does not mention the fact that United would have to deal with Raiola once again, who has had his run-ins with the club in the past.

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a special bond with Haaland having given him his debut as a teenager at Molde.

But City’s remain the favourites with the Etihad outfit desperate to sign a striker while his father, Alf-Inge, played for the club back in his playing days.

The comparatively low price of Haaland’s release clause – his market value is £135m – does not necessarily mean that whoever signs him will get a bargain.

Even with his extortionate wages, Raiola will also demand a huge chunk for brokering a potential deal as well as a massive signing-on fee.

Chelsea were desperate to avoid the transfer frenzy to follow this summer when over the past window they tried to prise him away from the Bundesliga.

They ultimately failed but ended up signing Romelu Lukaku instead while Thomas Tuchel has opened up over the negotiations.

“We talked about Erling Haaland a couple of times, including during the transfer window. But then it seemed absolutely unrealistic and not at all feasible,” the Chelsea boss told SportBild .

“We talk about him regularly, of course, because he’s a fantastic player and clearly the defining figure at Dortmund, who is a big rival for us in the Champions League.”
