Harry Kane appears to have ruled himself out of Tottenham’s opening Premier League match against Manchester City after extending his holiday, against the club’s wishes.

The Spurs and England captain landed in Florida earlier this week on a pit-stop back from his holiday in the Bahamas and he has now spent a further day in the US, defying his club’s request to return to their facilities.

Tottenham are said to be disappointed the striker did not return to the club earlier this week to report back for pre-season training following his break after Euro 2020 and are set to discipline the player.

As outlined by a report in The Telegraph, Kane has remained in Florida which will push back his possible return to first-team training due to having to quarantine upon his return to England, and is now unlikely to feature in the first game of the campaign.

Ironically, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are due to face the team who are pursuing a deal for Kane more than any other – reining Premier League champions Manchester City.

Kane will not be able to participate in any pre-season matches for Spurs due to his absence while he will have been in training for only a handful of days before his side’s opener against City on August 15.

Spurs remain adamant in their stance that the 28-year-old is not for sale but are likely to come under increasing pressure in their position due to Kane’s actions – which are likely to be met with further disappointment from the club’s fanbase.

It is believed that City have had a £100million approach for the superstar striker knocked back by Spurs, who value their asset at a much higher price.

Indeed, City’s £100million deal to sign Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish is likely to reaffirm the stance of Tottenham who believe that their striker is worth significantly more in today’s transfer market.

The deal for Grealish is set to be nearing completion and once it is concluded, City are likely to turn their full attention into their pursuit of Kane.

The report also mentions that City’s number 10 shirt – currently vacant after Sergio Aguero left the club as a free agent this summer – is being kept for the arrival of Kane, rather than handed to Grealish – both players occupied that number at Spurs and Villa respectively.

City’s signing of Grealish will break the all-time transfer record for an English club – currently held by Manchester United ’s deal for Paul Pogba, £89million – but could be eclipsed by Chelsea ’s move for Inter striker Romelu Lukaku and City’s approach for Kane this summer.
