Hedman ‘cried like a baby’ after reaching World Darts Championship

eta Hedman admitted she “cried like a baby” after qualifying for the World Darts Championship for the first time at the age of 61.

Hedman edged Fallon Sherrock to book a place at Alexandra Palace and she hopes to follow in her footsteps after Sherrock picked up two victories in the main draw last year.

Before taking on Andy Boulton tomorrow night, Hedman said: “My 61st birthday was coming up so I just went [to the qualifier] to get some money. I didn’t have any expectation whatsoever.”

When told she had qualified courtesy of winning 85 legs to Sherrock’s 83, Hedman said: “I cried like a baby.”

Hedman remains the only woman in the draw after Lisa Ashton lost 3-2 to Andy Hunt this week.

“I will enjoy every moment,” Hedman told BBC Sport.

“It’s no pressure. I just take it in my stride. There is no point putting pressure on yourself. I am excited about it.”
