How Crystal Palace may line-up against Newcastle tonight

The Palace boss has a number of injury concerns ahead of the trip north but would not reveal who was a doubt for the game.

While Hodgson is rarely one to change a winning team, the former England manager would have no issues with handing Mateta his first start.

Hodgson said: “Potentially. He’s fit and ready to play. We’ve got good options at centre-forward, they’re all fit and ready.

“We’re happy with Mateta. He’s getting used to us and south London. All those elements point to the future we’re hoping for.”

Predicted Crystal Palace XI (4-4-2): Guaita; Clyne, Kouyate, Cahill, Van Aanholt; Townsend, Milivojevic, Riedewald, Eze; Zaha, Batshuayi

Crystal Palace squad from: Guaita, Butland, Henderson, Van Aanholt, Mitchell, Dann, Cahill, Ward, Clyne, Kelly, Woods, Kouyate, Townsend, McArthur, McCarthy, Riedewald, Kirby, Eze, Ayew, Zaha, Benteke, Batshuayi, Pierrick, Mateta
