How we expect Chelsea to line up against Man United

T

homas Tuchel will manage Romelu Lukaku’s return after a month on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

The Belgian is likely to start on the bench against Manchester United on Sunday, while Chelsea have suffered a double injury blow after confirming the absence of both N’Golo Kante and Ben Chilwell.

Lukaku was an unused substitute against Juventus midweek and Tuchel said: “If you ask the player he will say he can start for sure. There is a bigger difference between being ready for training and being ready for games. There is also a difference between being ready for games and being ready for a Premier League game.

“We only have three changes so the possibility he starts is not very high because we can’t be sure what happens in matches and we have to find the balance between giving minutes and being absolutely competitive for 90 minutes with the guys that start.”

Chelsea’s medics are hoping to avoid surgery in their bid to help Chilwell recover from a knee ligament injury, with initial tests confirming he has suffered partial ACL damage. Kante has a twisted knee.

Timo Werner is in contention to start after making his first appearance for a month when coming on as a substitute against Juventus, and scoring the final goal of the 4-0 win.

Kante’s absence should see Ruben Loftus-Cheek come in alongside Jorginho in midfield, with Marcos Alonso replacing Chilwell.

Chelsea predicted XI: Mendy; Chalobah, Silva, Rudiger; James, Loftus-Cheek, Jorginho, Alonso; Mount, Werner, Pulisic.
