How we expect Liverpool to line-up against Ajax this evening

Liverpool‘s defensive headache has worsened with Joel Matip a doubt to face Ajax tonight after being unable to train ahead of their Champions League opener.

With talisman Virgil van Dijk out for several months with an anterior cruciate ligament injury – on Tuesday excluded with the Premier League champions’ squad until January – Jurgen Klopp is having to shuffle his pack.

It means Liverpool are likely to line up with Joe Gomez and midfielder Fabinho in central defence.

Adrian will also continue to deputise for Alisson in goal, though the Brazilian is nearing a return to action following a shoulder injury.

Thiago Alcantara, who injured a knee in a tackle which saw Everton’s Richarlison sent off in Saturday’s Merseyside derby, also did not train and is unlikely to play, meaning Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita will start alongside Gini Wijnaldum.

Predicted Liverpool XI to face Ajax (4-3-3): Adrian; Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, Gomez, Robertson, Keita, Henderson, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane
