How we expect Tottenham to line up against Everton

ose Mourinho gave little away when asked if his fringe players would be given opportunities in Wednesday’s FA Cup fifth-round at Everton, saying only he would consult with individuals before deciding on a team.

“I have to wait for [this afternoon’s] training session to help me in my decisions,” Mourinho said on Tuesday.

“I want to listen to them, if a player tells me, ‘I feel I am tired, I feel I cannot perform at the same level because of fatigue’, we will make a decision. If any player tells me, ‘I am great, I am perfectly fine, I am confident’, it will help me also. This is a situation where players will help me make a decision for them.”

The likes of Gareth Bale, Harry Winks and Carlos Vinicius will be hoping for minutes on Merseyside but Mourinho will be wary of the fragility of his side’s mood and momentum following Sunday’s win over West Brom.

Toby Alderweireld is likely to need a rest which could pave the way for Eric Dier to return to the side, while Matt Doherty is expected to start at right-back ahead of Serge Aurier, who is a major doubt after being forced off with what looked like a calf problem against the Baggies.

Moussa Sissoko’s return to the midfield would help offer protection for Doherty and stifle the roaming threat of Everton’s James Rodriguez.

Lucas Moura will hope to continue in the front three after impressing on Sunday, although Erik Lamela may be saved for Saturday’s game against runaway leaders Man City.

Mourinho faces a major decision over whether to rotate his goalkeepers, with Joe Hart having started in the previous two rounds against eighth-tier Marine and Wycombe.

Dele Alli is expected to be on the bench but Giovani Lo Celso and Sergio Reguilon (both hamstring) remain sidelined.
