How we predict Crystal Palace will line-up against Brighton

The Eagles boss is faced with a lengthy injury list that shows little sign of shrinking anytime soon. James McCarthy has returned to training but is no certainty for the trip to the Amex, while two other unnamed players could well miss out.

There is still no return date for Wilfried Zaha, with Palace having lost 18 of the last 20 Premier League games when their talisman was unavailable.

Asked about injury news, Hodgson said: “James McCarthy trained today [Thursday] which is very positive, so we’ll see how he trained through that. A couple of others picked up slight knocks that we need to keep an eye on – we don’t know how well they’ll recover.

“Certainly there won’t be a vast difference from the last couple of games and if we’re really unlucky it could be worse. Two players are suffering from knocks and we’re monitoring them.

“[Wilf Zaha] is still suffering from the injury, there’s no question of that. The doctors in particular and physios are very anxious to not put dates on people so they’d be very angry with me if I suggested dates he could return.

“He’s working very hard to get back as soon as he can. I’m rather hoping the prognosis will be different to the actual timescale.”

Crystal Palace predicted XI (4-4-2): Guaita; Ward, Dann, Cahill, Van Aanholt; Townsend, Kouyate, Riedewald, Eze; Benteke, Mateta

Crystal Palace squad from: Guaita, Butland, Henderson, Van Aanholt, Mitchell, Dann, Cahill, Ward, Clyne, Kelly, Kouyate, Townsend, Riedewald, Eze, Ayew, Benteke, Batshuayi, Mateta

Injury list: Ferguson (knee), Hennessey (thigh), Wickham (thigh), Tomkins (eye), Schlupp, Zaha (hamstring), McArthur
