Italy vs Austria: Euro 2020 – LIVE!

Italy have been hugely impressive so far at Euro 2020, and are big favourites to reach the quarter-finals as they take on Austria at Wembley tonight.

Roberto Mancini’s side have defied the typical stereotypes of Italian tournament teams with an exciting, attacking brand of football and it saw them cruise through the group stages with three succesive victories, over Turkey, Switzerland and Wales.

Austria, meanwhile, were underwhelming in beating North Macedonia and losing to the Netherlands in their first two games, but then produced an excellent – if slightly unexpected – display to topple Ukraine in their final match and seal the runner-up spot in Group C.

Italy were, along with England, one of only two sides to have gone through the group stage without conceding a goal but this could well be their biggest test to date.

Head to head (h2h) history and results

Italy vs Austria prediction

Italy have surprised many with their ruthlessness in front of goal and I expect that to continue tonight.

The Azzurri will dominate possession and have the ability to punish an Austria side boasting plenty of talent but susceptible to being overrun.

Predicted lineups

Italy XI: Donnarumma; Di Lorenzo, Bonucci, Acerbi, Spinazzola; Locatelli, Jorginho, Verratti; Berardi, Immobile, Insigne

Austria XI: Bachmann; Lainer, Dragovic, Hinteregger, Alaba; Laimer, Grillitsch, X. Schlager; Sabitzer, Baumgartner; Arnautovic

Early team news

Italy will likely be without both Giorgio Chiellini and Alessandro Florenzi. The veteran centre-back is back in training but not match fit, while Giovanni Di Lorenzo will step up if Florenzi fails a late fitness test.

Further forward, Marco Verratti should come in for Nicolo Barella, while it’s between Domenico Berardi and Federico Chiesa for who joins Ciro Immobile and Lorenzo Insigne in Italy’s front three.

Austria are sweating over the fitness of both Konrad Laimer and Christoph Baumgartner. It remains to be seen if David Alaba continues at left-back.

Kick-off time and venue

Italy vs Austria is scheduled for an 8pm BST kick-off tonight.

The match will be held at Wembley Stadium in London, England.

Italy are on the verge of the quarter-finals, and can set a new national record if they win tonight.

A perfect group stage surprised many despite Italy’s form heading into the tournament, and the Azzurri can rightly be considered among the favourites to lift the trophy for the first time since 1968.

Roberto Mancini’s side can also go a record-31 matches unbeaten this evening, while they are also looking for a 12th successive victory in London.

Austria, meanwhile, are into the knockout stages at a major tournament for the first time in 39 years after beating Ukraine to snatch the runners-up spot in Group C.
