Jermaine Jenas left Manchester United fans baffled with a claim about Jadon Sancho’s time at rivals Manchester City during England’s clash with Ukraine.

Sancho, 21, is set to join the Red Devils from Borussia Dortmund in a £73million deal so long as he passes a medical after Euro 2020.

The winger has been with Dortmund since August 2017, while before that he spent just over two years developing at City’s academy.

During his time with the Etihad club, Sancho spent a matter of weeks working alongside England teammate Kyle Walker, who joined City in July 2017 in a £50million deal from Tottenham.

Jenas pointed this out while on commentary duty for the Three Lions’ quarter-final encounter with Ukraine, much to the bemusement of some United fans.

“He’ll have a very good understanding with Kyle Walker from his time at Manchester City, even through training,” said Jenas.

In response, one Red Devils supporter wrote: “I honestly laughed when I heard Jermaine Jenas saying this, they joined/left in the same transfer window.”

Another added: “Jermaine Jenas has just said that Jadon Sancho will have a good understanding with Kyle Walker from their time together at Man City.

“‘Even just from training’. Walker signed for City the same summer Sancho left in 2017.”

One fan even questioned whether Sancho and Walker would have worked together at all during the summer of 2017, writing: “Don’t think Sancho and Walker were at city at the same time to work together as according to Jenas.”

“Sancho and Walker good understanding after time together at man city…. Sancho left Man City 2017… at age of 17….. Walker joined city in 2017… probably never even met,” said another fan.

Despite the confusion unfolding on Twitter, Sancho caught the eye with his first-half performance against Ukraine and drew lavish praise from Jenas.

“He’s got so much licence,” said the former England midfielder. “It was brilliantly worked from Jadon Sancho. He’s the player who’s committing defenders, making things happen.”

Rio Ferdinand echoed Jenas at half-time, labelling Sancho “unplayable” after his impressive opening 45 minutes.

“Jadon Sancho is not a surprise,” said the former England defender. “It is what we have been seeing for three years in German football.

“He dances past these players like he is on a dance floor. They don’t know where they are. He mesmerises defenders and has a balance and confidence that is rarely seen.

“Once he gets up to speed he is unplayable. At the end of it usually is a weight of pass that goes beyond his years.”
