Jose Mourinho openly questions Tottenham players’ ambition after draw at Wolves

Jose Mourinho questioned his players’ ambition after Tottenham blew another late lead.

Tottenham boss Mourinho admitted he was frustrated after letting two valuable points slip when Romain Saiss grabbed an 86th minute winner to cancel out Tanguy Ndombele’s first minute goal.

It was another cruel lesson for Spurs who conceded late at Liverpool and at Crystal Palace before another late setback at Molineux.

Mourinho said: “One point against Wolves normally wouldn’t be a bad result because they are a strong opponent. But scoring in the first minute and having 89 minutes to score more, there’s a sense of felling frustrated.

Jose Mourinho hit out at his side

“I know the way I prepare the team, I know all that and don’t want to say much more than that. We didn’t have that ambition or desire to go for more.

“You know the way I work. It’s not for me to talk to you about it. I know my team and my players better than anyone.

“I am frustrated with the result, we had control of the game, we had 89 minutes to score more goals and we didn’t. It’s not just about not scoring but also not being dangerous and ambitious and for me that’s the problem.

“Of course we can go back to corners, and say at Liverpool we should win and we lost with a corner, we can say here we should win and drew with a corner…. the other direction is to score in the first minute. You have 89 minutes to score more and didn’t.

Tottenham were pegged back late on and dropped two points

“Of course it’s a concern but it’s more of a concern the fact we score early goals and don’t kill matches… you must have a go and it’s as simple as that.”

Wolves last gasp hero Saiss added: “We can be disappointed today because we started the game and conceded a poor goal. We can avoid this kind of goal. After it’s harder when you play a team like Tottenham to come back.

“But we controlled the game and even with the draw, I think we deserved more. That’s a good mentality, we have to keep it for the next few games and avoid these kind of goals.”

Wolves boss Nuno added: “I am very proud of the players in the way they kept going. We deserved it.”
