Jose Mourinho singles out Dele Alli for praise as VAR leaves Fulham upset

Scott Parker claimed VAR is taking the “emotion” out of football after Fulham were denied a precious equaliser by video technology.

Fulham boss Parker was upset after Josh Maja saw his effort ruled out by VAR Peter Bankes who ruled the ball hit Mario Lemina’s arm in the build-up.

Parker said: “You’re losing the raw emotion of a game you absolutely love, its a shame and my opinion has not changed.

“It would only have damning effects.

“You’ll get to a point where there is no emotion in the game, tonight is about common sense really.

“I understand why the goal was not given tonight, that’s the law. I don’t agree with that, looking at it I don’t know what he can do, his arm is by his side.

“But maybe a bit of common sense is needed, we’ve got VAR so you can always look back and see if there has been a clear advantage and there wasn’t a clear advantage tonight.

“We should have got something out the game today we’ve not done that and that’s disappointing.

“Overall a first class performance.”

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho praised Dele Alli who started his first Premier League game since the opening day of the season and played a part in the winner which was ultimately credited as an own goal to Tosin Adarabioyo.

Mourinho has shown Alli tough love this season, freezing him out for much of the campaign but praised his determination to get back into the line-up.

Mourinho added: “He deserved. It was not a gift, it was a consequence of his work since he came back to the team.

“He was giving us important things and did very well in the Europe League and every minute when he came off the bench. So he was deserving.

“It was an important win of course – we need points and three are better than one. We showed from the first minute we were coming for that.

“The second half was harder but when we made the changes, we brought the danger to the other side. I don’t want to look at the table now, I just want to win matches.”
