Jose Mourinho insists Harry Kane needs only win just one game to satisfy his lust for silverware – April’s League Cup Final against Manchester City.
The Spurs boss takes his men to Everton on Wednesday night for their FA Cup Fifth Round showdown. But the north Londoners are on a run of three defeats in four.
Ancelotti’s Toffees, however, sit once place above Spurs in the League and just three points off the Premier League ’s top four with two games in hand.
With the Merseysiders favourites to extend Tottenham ’s poor run, questions will once again be asked as to whether Kane’s loyalty runs counter to his desperation to see his goals land silverware.
But Mourinho said: “To win a trophy, he just needs to win one game.
“I know that it is a big, difficult game.
“I know that it is against probably the team that is going to win the Premier League this year, so I think it is a very difficult final that we will have to play.
“But to win a trophy, we just need to win a match.”
The difficulty of Tottenham’s task at Wembley on April 25 was underlined by the way in which Pep Guardiola’s side destroyed Liverpool 4-1 at Anfield last Sunday to make it a record-breaking 14 wins in a row.
The Reds had already, in turn, outclassed Spurs last month at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium to underline the gulf in extent to which the north Londoners have been in decline.
Asked whether 27-year-old Kane could continue waiting with so many top teams – including City – keen on his services, Mourinho added: “You have to ask, but I think to wait is not the right way to describe it.
“The way to describe it is that he needs to fight for it, to fight for it. But it is something very personal and I think he is the right guy to have a conversation with you about it.”
